Private Day Tour: Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond & Glengoyne Distillery

Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond & Glengoyne Distillery

We set off on our day tour from your pickup point, stopping first at Stirling Castle.

Stirling Castle is one of Scotland’s most historically important sites and was once a favoured residence of the Stewart kings and queens, who held grand celebrations at the castle. Knights, nobles and foreign ambassadors once flocked to Stirling Castle to revel in its grandeur, with its superb sculptures and beautiful gardens. From christenings to coronations, this was the place where royal Scotland came together.

We then head off to the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond and the conservation village of Luss, where we stop for lunch and a meander around this idyllic, picturesque village.

The pretty conservation village of Luss sits almost 10 miles south of Tarbert on the western shore of Loch Lomond. A settlement has stood here since medieval times, although much of the current village dates from the 18th and 19th centuries, originally built to house workers from nearby slate quarries. For anyone wanting to escape the crowds, the 19th-century parish church offers a haven of peace, with a lovely ceiling made from Scots pine rafters and beautiful Victorian stained-glass windows. Today Luss is a popular stopping-off point for visitors exploring the Loch Lomond area.

After lunch we proceed to Glengoyne Distillery. Glengoyne is a distillery like no other. It’s as pretty as a picture, with its whitewashed walls and pagoda roof nestling into the bottom of Dumgoyne Hill — the famous volcanic plug that shimmers like a far-off mirage to the good folk of Glasgow.

It is a happy, thriving community, home to tenth-generation distillers who cut no corners and never waver from the methods passed down to them by their forefathers. It is also the trailblazer in offering seriously entertaining, in-depth visits to whisky experts and beginners alike. There is something for everyone here and, in the words of Richard Grindall in The Spirit Of Whisky, “there can be no better place on earth to sit and take a glass of malt whisky.”

From here we head back to your drop-off point.

Please note: entrance fees to Stirling Castle and Glengoyne Distillery are not included in the tour price.
